Elevating Event Tables with Colored Glass

A simple way to bring charm and personality to the table

I have always loved setting a table. Pretty plates, linen napkins and vintage glasses. It all gives the table personality and brings joy to the guests who sit down to enjoy a meal there. As I mentioned in my post The Art of a Place Setting, it’s the small details that make the biggest difference.

At home, it’s easy to layer in those details. Placemats, napkins, salad plates and unique glassware are doable when you’re hosting 8-10 guests.

But when it comes to larger events, especially weddings, every added detail increases the cost. Flowers are often the most expensive item on the table, and things like vintage salad plates, chargers and specialty linens can add up quickly.

So what do you do when you want a beautiful table without stretching the budget?

You choose a standout detail and keep everything else simple.

Most people gravitate toward colored napkins, which are lovely, but also expected. I personally love using colored water goblets and they’ve become my go-to for events because they truly make an impact. They bring color and personality to the table and for the rental cost, they offer a beautiful return.

Think of it this way: when you add a pop of color to every place setting, the glasses become the focal point. Everything else—the china, napkins, chargers—steps into a supporting role and can remain soft and neutral.

So if a venue provides simple white or ivory place settings, that’s more than enough. The glasses do all of the talking.
